Abbasi, Sattar among former MNAs evicted from Parliament Lodges

Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad police on Saturday launched an operation to free Parliament Lodges from former members of the parliament who were illegally dwelling in the government-owned facility, DawnNewsTV reported.

According to the authorities' list, 119 ex-lawmakers were illegally occupying the lodges, of which 30 have been evicted.

CDA today managed to free up the lodges allotted to former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, former MQM-P convener Farooq Sattar, former federal minister Sheikh Aftab Ahmed, Qaumi Watan Party Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao as well as Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai.

Malik Asad Sikandar, Bilal Virk, Raza Hayat Hiraj and Syed Ali Hasan Gilani's governmental residences have also been evicted.

However, Tallal Chaudhry and Abid Sher Ali — both PML-N politicians who lost their seats in last month's polls — have not yet vacated the lodges that were allotted to them when they were still members of the parliament.

All the former parliamentarians, who had not been re-elected in the recently held elections, were given a deadline of July 31 to vacate their lodges.

All those who failed to vacate the residence, should pay rent for their overstay and also cover the cost associated with their eviction.

There needs to be a heavy penalty for not vacating, these people no longer work(if you want to call it) for the government of Pakistan, they are civilians. Not only should they be penalized, there should be a compounding high interest on the balance they owe, daily. I promise you they fly out of there if they have to pay even a single paisa.Free loaders.

Any one in disobedience of law is guilty. In North America you cannot leave your car parked at a designated spot longer than the time limit specified. If you exceed the time limit, you get a fine of anywhere between $100- $500 to be paid in 15 days. If you fail to pay the fine in15 days, the amount is doubled with a notice of issuing arrest warrants against you. Until paid in full, the amount of fine won’t stop from rocketing up. At the end of the day, such enforcement of law works best in the interest of every one as well as the nation. It enhances law, discipline, safety and security of all. Besides generating revenues for the government machinery, it promotes a win-win situation. Billions of Rupees could be retrieved form the pockets of those evictees in penalties plus unlawful overstaying charges.

The official residences are expensive to maintain and overstay of MPs and ministers are a problem. There should only be one official house for the president, and PM all others should be given a fixed amount for their rent. If ministers and MPs want a more expensive residence, they should pay the difference from their pocket. This way the government will not pay for the upkeep and overstay would not be a problem. The government will simply stop paying the rent. Further, the president and PM would not be allowed declare their house as an official residence. The government would not spend a penny on the improvement of safety or upkeep of the private property.

Perhaps it would be fair to charge them commercial rent from the date they lost the right to use them legitimately. Of course they would be reluctant to do so because their objectives are to use this nation for their personal interests and cannot see anything wrong, illegal or immoral in doing so and that is our national tragedy so far in its short history.
