LAHORE, June 7: Rail traffic will resume via Dharampura from Wednesday (today). Karakurram Express will be the first train to roll on to the track that links Lahore Cantonment and main Lahore railway stations. The decision to resume the route of all up and down trains was taken on the instructions of Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi, railway officials said on Tuesday.

They said a committee of railways divisional officers on Tuesday supervized the trial running of a train on the section and declared it fit for all kind of traffic.

The traffic on the Lahore Cantonment-Lahore railway station had been suspended since December last year because of the construction of an underpass at Dharampura.

The work on the underpass was scheduled to complete by April 15 but it was initially delayed for at least one month.

The delay had also affected the timings of eight trains running between Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Karachi and Lahore, their routes were diverted through the Mughalpura station.
