KOHAT: Chief of disciplinary committee of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf for southern Khyber Pahtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, has urged the Election Commission of Pakistan to notify the de-seating of four members of tehsil councils for supporting rival candidates during general elections despite ban.

In a notification submitted to the election commission, Mr Gandapur asked for the de-seating of Lachi tehsil naib nazim Nazir Mehmood, councillors Umer Daraz and Rehana Begumand Matiullah of Gumbat tehsil.

The notification said that these councillors worked for different candidates despite ban on their activities during elections by the election commission.

They had allegedly supported rival candidates in July 25 polls in Kohat

FIVE ARRESTED: Police arrested five alleged arms smugglers from different areas of the district during operations on Tuesday. They conducted raids at various places and arrested Yasir Hayat of Shin Dhand, Irshad of Tappi, Nazeer Gul from Baqizai, Shahzeb hailing from Junglekhel and Gulfaraz Khan, a resident of Karak district.

The recovery included four Kalashnikovs, two pistols, hundreds of cartridges and hashish.

A case has been registered against the accused. The police also seized 300 bottles of liquor and arrested a man in a raid in Junglekhel area.

According to a statement, the police raided a house in Akhunkhel street in Junglekhel and seized 200 litres of liquor chemical, bottles and other items, including weapons, and arrested the alleged owner, Azmat Ali Shah.

BUDGET: The tehsil council presented a deficit budget on Tuesday showing total income of Rs66.7 in the financial year 2018-19.

The expenditure had been displayed as Rs74 million with Rs16 million for development projects and Rs18 million for payment of monthly salaries and pensions.

Meanwhile, the Performance Management and Reforms Unit (PMRU) of the office of the chief secretary, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, at a workshop briefed the officials about the sustainability and enforcement of government policies through social media on Tuesday. KP chief coordinator Adil Saeed briefed the participants about the government initiatives. It was attended by ADC Shah Nawaz, AC Gul Bano and officials of government departments.

Mr Saeed said that assisting the people in resolving their issues through bringing transparency in the system was priority of the government.
