ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Monday welcomed two new inductions into his party — his stepdaughter Mehrunnissa Hayat and her friend, social activist Farah Khan.

Mehrunnissa and Farah held a meeting with Mr Khan at his Banigala residence where they announced their decision to join the PTI.

Mehrunnissa is the daughter of Bushra Maneka, Mr Khan’s third wife whom he married in Lahore in February.

The new members of the PTI congratulated Mr Khan on his victory in the elections, and said that the party’s manifesto had been carefully crafted to pull Pakistan out of the crises it found itself in today. They also credited the prime minister-in-waiting for mobilising the youth of the nation and inspiring them to get themselves involved in political activities — an achievement that required perseverance for more than 20 years.

Ms Bushra herself has maintained a low profile since her marriage to Mr Khan and has not been politically active. However, following Mr Khan’s victory in the elections, she sent out a message to the nation, asking people to have faith in their new leader who, she said, would protect the oppressed, especially women, widows and orphans.
