PESHAWAR: A group of senior engineers has accused the Pakistan Engineering Council of failing to get the required job opportunities in the multibillion dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project.

These views were expressed by nominees of United Engineers Pakistan (UEP) panel, while speaking at different meetings here on Saturday.

On the occasion, Engr Ishfaq Hussain Shah said PEC had failed to play its due role in resolving the longstanding demands of engineers regarding service structure and creation of jobs opportunities for fresh graduates.

He said the PEC’s annual election would be held on Aug 12 and efforts would be made to get rid of the people who had always usurped rights of the community. He urged the engineers to elect a competent panel for resolution of their genuine and longstanding problems within shortest possible time.

Hussain Shah, who is candidate for chairmanship from the UEP panel, said job opportunities for engineers were vanishing with the passage of time. He urged engineers to actively take part in the PEC elections.

He said the UEP panel had included senior engineers from all over the country in a bid to provide genuine leadership to the community.

The members, he said should bring about change by voting for the devoted people who had no affiliation with any political party or group. He said the UEP panel, if elected, would ensure service structure, establish research and development endowment fund and create job opportunities for engineers.

He also spoke against those involved in embezzlement of PEC funds, saying they would be held accountable and embezzled funds would be recovered to ensure no one could dare deprive the community of their due rights in future.
