RAWALPINDI: A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 22-year-old man in the Pakhwal Village, in the limits of the Rawat police station, when she was going to get ice from the neighbour’s house.

The girl was taken to the rural health centre where doctors said in a medical report that she was sexually assaulted.

The police have taken the suspect into custody and filed a rape case against him.

According to the police, the girl’s parents complained that the girl and her younger brother were going to get ice from the neighbours on Tuesday at about 7pm when a man took her to a nearby under-construction building and raped her.

The man managed to escape while locals recovered the girl from the deserted house and told her parents what had happened. The police then conducted a raid to apprehend the suspect.

Investigating officer ASI Raja Tassaduq confirmed that a case has been lodged against the suspect.

In a separate incident, a man drowned in a dam while swimming. Rescuers recovered the body which was taken to the hospital for an autopsy.
