LAHORE, June 4: A Norwegian national of Pakistani origin claims that his wife who reportedly died in an accident near Gujrat on Thursday was actually murdered by her parents. Sani Ahmad Rizwan told Norwegian press and police on Saturday that Raheela (20), also a Norwegian national, had married him against the wishes of his parents.

Oslo daily Sondag quoted Rizwan as saying that Raheela had accompanied her parents to Randheer, a village 50kms off Gujrat, a couple of weeks ago to see her ailing grandfather.

According to our Gujrat correspondent, Raheela died on Thursday last when her car reportedly fell into the Upper Jhelum Canal near Head Khokhran in Mandi Bahauddin district. Her driver however managed to swim to safety.

She was buried without an autopsy as nobody raised doubts about her death here. No senior police official was available for comment till Saturday night.
