GILGIT: Pakistan Army pilots have recovered the body of an Italian climber from camp-1 of Gasherbrum IV. The body was taken to the Combined Military Hospital in Skardu.

Thirty-two-year-old Maurizio Giordano died when falling ice hit him during his attempt to reach the summit along with an expedition team on Thursday.

According to a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations, during the rescue operation the military personnel also dropped food packets for two other Italian climbers at camp-1.

The rescue mission was carried out by the army aviation pilots.

According to a source, the body will be shifted from Skardu to Islamabad on Saturday and then to Italy after completion of formalities.
