RAWALPINDI: Deputy Commissioner Umer Jehangir on Friday imposed a fine of Rs25,000 each on six elected members of local government for participating in election campaigns, violating the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan.

The cantonment board members and union council chairmen have been playing their part in electioneering of former interior minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan in NA-59, NA-63 and PP-10 and PP-12, PML-N candidates Hanif Abbasi in NA-60, Malik Abrar in NA-61, Raja Hanif in PP-17 election campaign is being participated by in their respective area.

Chaklala Cantonment Board vice president Raja Irfan Imtiaz, UC-81 chairman Sheikh Sajid, member cantonment board Ch. Khurram, UC-84 chairman Imran Ilyas, UC-21 vice chairman Mohammad Hanif and UC-119 chairman Ali Awan not only participated in their election campaign but organized public meetings for them.

On the complaint, Deputy Commissioner sought reply from them about their involvement in the election campaign and public meetings but the local government public representatives neither appeared before the district election monitoring officer not explained their position through their representatives or in writing.

The deputy commissioner gave them time to explain their position and after the deadline, he imposed the fine.
