SHANGLA: The election candidates in Shangla district have started playing songs in their campaigns to woo voters. The songs, mostly in Pashtu language, are sung in corner meetings to attract the people.

PML-N provincial president Amir Muqam is leading the trend as his corner meetings are characterised by a variety of songs in praise of the party leadership and its development agenda.

ANP candidate for NA-10, Haji Sadeed-ur-Rehman, PPP’s PK-23 candidate Dr Afsarul Mulk, PTI’s PK-23 candidate Shaukat Ali Yousafzai, MMA’s NA-10 nominee Amir Sultan Gujjar, PPP’s NA-10 candidate Engr Hamid Iqbal, have also got recorded songs of their parties to lure voters.

Mr Rehman of ANP said the song was recorded for him by one of his friends in Peshawar just for the election campaign to provide enjoyment to the workers in the corner meetings.

Workers dance to the music in corner meetings; and sometimes they play the music in vehicles during the door-to-door campaigns, he added.

Dr Afsar-ul-Mulk of PPP said he had got recorded a special song to be played in the election campaign, adding the song was a tribute to PPP founder Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and her daughter, Benazir Bhutto.

BISHAM CITY WITHOUT POWER: The Bisham city’s main bazaar remains without power supply for last three days due to breaking down of a transformer.

The locals told Dawn that the power transformer went out of work on Sunday, but it was yet be repaired.

They said the Peshawar Electric Supply Company officials had asked them to collect money for repair of the transformer.

They said they had collected the money for the purpose, but had no transport facility to take the transformer to the workshop.

The traders said that their businesses had suffered due to prolonged suspension of power supply.
