LAHORE: A medic has accused a senior teacher of the Punjab Medical University Faisalabad of harassing her for many years.

The complaint went viral on the social media during the last one week or so as her colleagues say they had to build a campaign to pressure the university management to investigate the case. They allege that many students face such issues at the hands of the teaching staff at the government medical colleges and universities.

In the latest allegation against a doctor of the forensic medicine department, the Punjab Medical University vice chancellor has constituted a committee to investigate the case.

In her application to the PMU vice chancellor, the medic alleged that an associate professor had been harassing her for the last couple of years. She said after doing her MBBS from the Punjab Medical College (in 2012-13), she completed one-year house job from the same institute. She said the teacher started harassing her but initially she ignored it and this emboldened the teacher who continued to make job difficult for her, forcing her to join the District Headquarters Hospital, Rawalpindi.

She said the teacher continued to harass her through mobile phone calls and WhatsApp by sharing inappropriate messages and videos. When she blocked his messages, he used social media to frustrate her, said the complainant.

She said she and her family had been facing mental torture due to such a behaviour of the doctor.

The varsity administration says a committee headed by Punjab Medical University Faisalabad Registrar Prof Dr Hina Ayesha has started inquiry into the complaint.
