RAWALPINDI: Former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and 15 others have been issued notices by Deputy Commissioner Dr Umer Jahangir for violating the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) code of conduct.

As district monitoring officer for the elections, the DC has asked Chaudhry Nisar why he did not inform the district administration about his public meeting three days beforehand.

Under the code of conduct, candidates and political parties have to inform the district administration about the public meetings in their constituency three days prior.

The former interior minister had held a public meeting in Al-Haram City, Chakri Road Rawalpindi and had not informed the district administration of it. He therefore also did not have permission for the meeting. The district administration directed Chaudhry Nisar to follow the code of conduct.

Talking to Dawn, DC Jahangir confirmed that Chaudhry Nisar had been issued a show cause notice for violating the code of conduct.

The district administration also issued notices to Tehreek Labbaik Pakistan for conducting a rally in Gujar Khan in violation of the code of conduct and asked its district chapter to explain their reasons to the ECP.

The administration rejected an application by Rawalpindi Mayor Sardar Naseem for holding a public meeting of PML-N and said he would not participate in the electioneering as per the ECP’s code of conduct.
