PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority sealed seven factories and 10 meat shops in different areas of the provincial metropolis on Wednesday.

According to the authority’s spokesperson, a crackdown was carried out in industrial zone, Hayatabad, where seven different factories were sealed. He stated that one of these factories was exporting meat to China and it was sealed for failure to maintain cleanliness on its premises.

He said that three potato chips factories were closed down over use of substandard oil and spices. Moreover, 10 meat shops were sealed in Palosai Bazaar and Tehkal Payan for selling unhygienic meat.

He added that over 300 kilogrammes of substandard items, including catalyst chemicals, were discarded in the operation. Two ice cream factories were sealed in the industrial area.

In a crackdown at Chargano Chowk, five chicken shops were sealed over non-compliance of earlier warnings of the authority. The shop owners were warned two months ago about cleanliness and other safety procedures. A fruit processing factory was also sealed for using substandard catalyst.
