PESHAWAR: Pashto singer Karan Khan has launched tree plantation drive, asking his fans to contribute to the cause of green Pakhtunkhwa.

He will also bring out a video showcasing the significance of tree plantation drive, safe environment and water conservation.

Mobilising people and his fans to participate in the tree plantation drive would be part of the video message.

He has recently started the campaign of green Pakhtunkhwa by planting some sample trees in his hometown Mingora, Swat.

He said that it was his own idea to take the initiative in the interest of the people to revive natural beauty of the region once an abode of peace and flowers.

The singer said that reclaiming natural beauty and a balanced ecosystem was his slogan.

He said that the initiative was focused on the growth of indigenous species to be supportive of the local ecosystem.

He hoped that the initiative would have a positive trickling effect on his audience. “I have one million followers and even if 100,000 of them act upon my call for a green Pakhtunkhwa, I would grade myself quite successful in my initiative,” he told Dawn.

He said that it was important to initiate a massive tree plantation drive in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as according to Provincial Forest Resource Inventory Report, 78 per cent of its forests were degraded.

“Clubs of fans will be made to ensure tree plantation during the current monsoon season in their respective areas. I hope my other colleagues also follow me because singers should not only entertain people but also educate them in a pleasurable manner. We can plan inspiring songs asking people to save environment,” said Mr Khan.
