ISLAMABAD: A former deputy chairman and a deputy director of the National Database and Regulatory Authority (Nadra) were on Friday booked for stealing sensitive records of the authority.

The incidents of thefts from Nadra Headquarters were reported to the Secretariat police by the Nadra HQ Chief of Staff retired Col Tahir Maqsood Khan in separate complaints which led to the registration of separate cases.

The case against the former deputy chairman says he stole sensitive information of the authority. He was dismissed from service some time ago, the FIR says, and that he took with him some sensitive information and other belongings of the authority.

The case registered against the former deputy director says the official worked in the finance department and stole sensitive financial information of the authority along with laptops, flash drives and work station.

Both the former officials were booked under PPC’s Article 380, the police said.

According to the FIRs, after realising details of the theft, Nadra officials approached the suspects and asked them to return the records repeatedly and were also issued a warning.

The FIRs say there is a strong possibility that the authority’s sensitive financial records and data may be used in the wrong way.

A Nadra official told both the officers were let go in 2017 over the misuse of power and corruption.

Nadra spokesperson Fail Ali said the Federal Investigation Agency was also approached by Nadra and a complaint was also lodged there.
