SUKKUR: An activist of the Sindh Peoples Students Federation (SPSF) has filed an application in the Sukkur district and sessions court accusing former PPP MNA Noman Islam Shaikh and sitting Deputy Mayor Tariq Chauhan for threatening him with dire consequences.

Abdul Wahid Malik, a PPP worker and former office-bearer of the party’s student wing SPSF, stated in his application that he had posed some questions to his party colleagues, Mr Shaikh and Mr Chauhan, regarding allegations of corruption against them. He stated that the two leaders got infuriated over his act and started harassing him by threatening him with dire consequences.

Malik stated that he feared for his life and, therefore, should be provided protection against the threats and harassment.

Admitting the application, the court fixed the matter for Tuesday (today).

Two ‘absconders’ held

Two government contractors, Tariq Aziz and Ali Hassan, were arrested on Monday in connection with two separate references, one concerning corruption in a road-building scheme and the other pertaining to cheating public at large, APP adds.

The two suspects were declared absconders in the reference (No. 12/2018), according to a statement issued from the office of the Sukkur NAB director general.

It said that Tariq Aziz was named in the reference filed against Abdul Khaliq Panhiar, a former executive engineer of the highways division, Kashmore, and other co-accused. A NAB probe found him involved in the misappropriation of funds meant for road development in Kandhkot-Kashmore district, it said.

Tariq Aziz was produced in the Sukkur accountability court, which remanded him in judicial custody on Monday, said the statement.

It further said that Ali Hassan was named in the cases (3/2018, 5/2018, 6/2018, 10/2018 and 11/2018) which were transferred from Ghotki district and sessions court to the Sukkur accountability court, which was hearing a reference (3/2018) filed against Amanat Ali Golo and other co-accused.

According to the reference, Ali Hassan in connivance with the prime suspect, Amanat Ali Golo, swindled people in the name of doubling their money.

The statement said that Ali Hassan would be produced in the accountability court on Tuesday (today) to seek his remand.
