Two scrap dealers hurt in blast

GUJRANWALA, May 31: Two scrap dealers suffered injuries in an explosion in a shop on Sheikhupura Road on Tuesday. It is learnt that Shahid and his partner Suleman were checking scrap brought from Afghanistan when a bomb exploded. They were taken to DHQ hospital where their condition was stated to be stable. Fingers of their hands and feet have been blown away.

Panic gripped the area on hearing the sound of a bang. Eyewitnesses said windowpanes of nearby buildings were smashed.

WORKER KILLED: A steel factory worker was killed when a gas cylinder exploded on Rawalpindi by-pass intersection on Tuesday.

Tariq Javed of Badoki Gosian village in Gakkhar was working in the factory when the gas cylinder exploded. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

Tariq was the father of three children.

ROBBED: Six highwaymen robbed 200 passengers of buses and wagons at a picket set up in Wahando on Tuesday.

It is learnt that the robbers intercepted a commuter bus, two wagons and two loaders at gunpoint. They drove the vehicles to a field and deprived the passengers of all their belongings. They beat up some passengers when they put up resistance.

They loaded the stolen goods worth hundreds of thousands of rupees on a wagon and drove away with the booty.

Police have registered the case against unidentified accused and are investigating.
