HYDERABAD, May 31: A dumb girl was allegedly raped by three people, one of them a policeman, in Tando Mohammad Khan town on Monday night. The girl had been living with a nomadic Shaikh family for a few days and she used to earn her living by begging.

A policeman along with two other persons took her away on Monday night and raped her in a quarter of the Pakistan Railways.

She was later abandoned in Soomro Muhallo in an unconscious state.

She has been medically examined by a lady doctor of the taluka hospital but the report is still awaited.

When contacted on telephone, a duty officer at the Tando Mohammed Khan police station told Dawn that so far no FIR had been registered though the three accused had been detained.

He said no medical report had been received from the hospital about the alleged rape.

He said further action would be taken after the receipt of the medical report.

It is learnt that under pressure from some political parties and NGOs the police have agreed to register an FIR.

SHO Mohammad Khan said that a constable who was allegedly involved in the crime had been taken into custody.
