Objections over value of Bilawal’s assets rejected

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has explained that its chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has mentioned the cost of his assets in his nomination forms for the coming general elections as per official prices of properties and other things and not according to their current market value.

“We have noticed that a lot is being said regarding Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s asset details. The PPP would like to clarify a few things,” PPP spokesman Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said in a statement.

He explained that the PPP chairman submitted income tax returns for the last three years with all his nomination papers. All properties and businesses that have been declared by him were inherited from his family.

As for those questioning how Bilawal House Karachi is worth Rs3 million, he referred to Section 116 of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, which reads “All assets [whether purchased or inherited] should be valued at cost”.

He pointed out that the PPP chairman inherited Bilawal House Karachi in the early 1990s and claimed that at that time it was valued at Rs3 million.

Senator Khokhar also said that around 70 candidates were contesting election against Mr Bhutto-Zardari in three constituencies. Copies of his nomination papers were taken by all other contesting candidates, including those who are contesting elections on the tickets of the PTI, MQM, PML-N, MMA, and none of them raised any legal objection whatsoever.

The Bhuttoand Zardari Ruling Family Dynasties are a curse and scourge for Pakistan and the long suffering loyal and deluded people of Sindh without access to basic amenities like clean water, gas and electricity, schools and hospitals. Bilawal is another in the line of this dynasty who believe they are born with the privilege and entitlement to rule,loot and plunder Pakistan. Bilawal is the son of parents who have ruled Pakistan 3 times between them and abused their power to loot and plunder the poor country. The Bhuttos/Zardari and Sharif clans have corruption embedded in their DNA and need to leave the poor country alone!

Let's make a law that govt. can buy any property of member of parliaments by paying the declared or adding 20% to 50% more than their own appraised value. You cannot even buy a 2 bedroom house in areas like Korangi in 3 million Rs. How long they can make Pakistani people fool? Next govt, should take all of their properties at the rate of their own declared values.

So, at the time of inheritence, in 1990, it was worth Rs 3 million - in the most prime location in Karachi? I tend to differ. Even in 1990s, it must be worth 20-30 million at least, based on the size, location, quality and the name of the property would attrack some premium.

Dear informed members. If you have problem with the declaration of assets by Bilalwal, then amend the laws under which the properties are evaluated and reported to Election commission. If Govt start taxing un the perceived value of properties, none of us will be in a position to own any property.

This is rubbish. When was it built? Was date of transfer correct? When was it transferred? What was the age of Bilawal in 1990? Even in 1990 the value of land in Clifton was much higher? May be it was transferred when Bilawal was not born? It needs to answer lots of question. It needs more detailed investigation.

What is the point in declaring value of the properties? Value can increase or decrease with time. Usually it increases in Pakistan. How it would have been different if he had shown the value as 30 crores instead of thirty lac. Bilawal house was definitely inherited and was built in 1990. Every house that was bought in 1990 has increased in value exponentially.The point should be that how they accumulated all this, and other assets, and if they were accumulated through legal means.

Assets should be declared at todays market values and independently scrutinised to ensure accuracy and consistency. Anyone found mis-declaring valuation figures should be disqualified straightaway. You need to get tough with these people to bring them in-line.
