HYDERABAD: The Supreme Court-appointed judicial commission on sanitation and water headed by retired Justice Amir Hani Muslim on Friday asked Cantonment Board Hyderabad (CBH) staff to ensure cleanliness of the drain on Fatima Jinnah Road (Thandi Sarak).

Justice Muslim paid a detailed visit to parts of the city, starting from Thandi Sarak and ending at Station Road. He walked on Thandi Sarak right up to the circuit house, noting broken drains on both sides of the road.

CBH’s sanitary inspector Sanaullah told the commission that one side of the road was under CBH’s limits. He said the CBH controlled old drain and it would be cleared by them.

The commission told him that the hoarding that overlooked the road was detrimental to public safety to which he replied that the taxation department handled hoarding’s approvals.

He also informed the commission that Cantonment Executive Officer (CEO) Sardar Atif Sultan was on leave while CBH secretary was in Karachi.

Newly-appointed Hyderabad Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Aslam Soomro was directed to overlook drain’s cleanliness.

The commission expressed displeasure over Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) officials for the unattended parts of drain on the other side of the road.

Mr Muslim entered Rani Bagh and was unhappy over growth of wild bushes inside it.

A Municipal Committee Qasimabad official, Hatim Mallah, was directed to clear them.

The commission asked Hyder­abad Municipal Corporation’s Municipal Commissioner Nasr­ullah to bring refuse vans on the road and collect garbage that dots the roads on various locations.

He then arrived at Hyder Chowk and then walked up to St Mary Chowk through Risala Road and then Lajpat Road.

Hyderabad Mayor Tayyab Hussain and newly-posted Hyder­abad SSP Adeel Raza Chandio also accompanied him.

The commission asked HMC’s director health Rafiq Rajput to cleanse road of unattended garbage. He also called for removal of encroachment on Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Road.

Some residents informed him about choked gutter lines on the road. The commission asked Rajput to get the line opened immediately and then get the road cleaned.

The commission then took a round of road around Civil Hospital Hyderabad (CHH) and then walked up to St Mary Chowk from CHH and expressed dissatisfaction over unattended garbage.

He directed Rafiq Rajput to ensure that garbage lying unattended be disposed of immediately.

Earlier, he arrived at judges lodges where he had an informal meeting with newly-posted Hyderabad DIG Sultan Khawaja, divisional commissioner Ehsan Ali Mangi, Hyderabad DC, SSP, Wasa’s managing director Masood Jumani and others.
