Moon sighting

Published June 22, 2018

APROPOS the news report ‘Central moon-sighting panel held responsible for Eid controversy’ (June 20).

It seems that a clash of egos between two religious leaders is creating conflict in the country over the observance of Ramazan and Eid-ul Fitr and harming the unity of the people. It is time we put an end to clerics creating chaos in Pakistan.

In this modern age, only the official Suparco decision on moon sighting based on scientific findings should be followed. This practice is already in vogue in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Last but not least, why is the moon-sighting so controversial in Ramazan and Eid? I wonder if Mufti Muneeb and Mufti Popalzai indulge in a moon-sighting controversy at the end of every lunar month. If not, who is doing this task the rest of the year?
