BAHAWALPUR: PML-Q former parliamentary leader in Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Moonis Elahi on Monday filed his nomination papers from NA-172 (Bahawalpur-III).

According to private secretary Abdul Wahid of former district nazim and PML-Q MNA Tariq Cheema, the nomination papers of Moonis Elahi were filed with the returning officer at Yazman. Wahid said Moonis didn’t come here and he filed his papers.

He told Dawn that Tariq Cheema also filed his nomination papers from two national assembly constituencies -- NA-172 and NA-171 (Bahawalpur-11).

Dawn has learnt that in NA-172, Tariq Cheema may face former senator Saood Majid Chaudhry, who may be allotted PML-N ticket while it is expected that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf may not field any candidate in NA-172 following seat adjustment formula with PML-Q.

Tariq Cheema in NA-171 may oppose PTI’s nominee Naeemuddin Warraich who will be facing PML-N’s candidate former federal minister Mian Riaz Husain Pirzada.

On the last day on Monday, several candidates filed their nomination papers. They included: NA-170 (Bahawalpur-1) former federal minister Farooq Azam Malik, Ms.Shazia Naureen Hashmi, former provincial minister Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar, ex-MPA Syed Irfan Gardezi. NA-172: Salman Gardezi, Hamid Sufian. NA-173 and 174 : former MNA Syed Ali Hassan Gilani.

BOOKED: City Ahmedpur East police on Monday registered a case against 28 people, including three nominated, for allegedly attacking a medical officer and ransacking the Ahmedpur East THQ hospital.

According to police sources, the suspects misbehaved with medical officer Ms.Anam Zafar. All 28, including the nominated Asghar, Ms Samina Bibi and Maryam Bibi were, booked under sections 353, 148, 149 and 186 of PPC. Police claimed to have arrested Asghar while 25 were unidentified. Further investigation is under way.
