LAHORE, May 29: Senate Chairman Mohammadmian Soomro sees development on the National Finance Commission Award. He told reporters at the Government Central Model School, Ratigan Road, on Sunday that the award would soon be announced with the consensus of all the federation units.

Mr Soomro said protest had been lodged with the US against the desecration of Holy Quran by American troops in the Guantanamo Bay detention centre.

Regarding the explosion at the Bari Imam shrine, he quoted the interior minister as having said that investigations were under way into the blast.

The senate chairman, however, parried questions about the president’s address to the joint session of parliament.

Earlier speaking at the training workshop for primary teachers at the school, he said the government was trying to restore the dignity and sanctity of teachers and striving to improve their capacity building so that they could impart knowledge and education to the youth.

He said the teachers could play a pivotal role in the character building of students.

Punjab Education Minister Imran Masood, Agriculture Marketing Minister Qasim Khan Noon, Special Education Minister Qudsia Lodhi, Population Welfare Minister Naseem Lodhi, chief minister’s adviser on education Saadia Shahzad Chaudhry and Education secretary Javed Aslam also spoke.

Later, Mr Soomro distributed shields among workshop participants.
