SRINAGAR: Six Kashmiris were killed during a search operation conducted by troops in India-held Kashmir, military officials said.
A gun battle began early in the morning when soldiers during the search operation intercepted a group of Kashmiris along the Line of Control, claimed Col Rajesh Kalia.
He said soldiers were still carrying out search operations in the remote and forested northwestern Keran sector, where the incident occurred.
There was no independent confirmation of the incident.
On Thursday, at least one soldier was killed and another wounded after Kashmiris, who are opposed to the Indian occupation of the region, attacked an Indian patrol in the same area.
Nearly 70,000 people have been killed in the uprising and the ensuing Indian military crackdown since 1989.

Recently I traveled in Kashmir (excluding Jammu) extensively with my wife as a tourist for about 10 days. I met people from Srinagar to Leh, Gulmarg to Pehalgam and we went close to places towards Uri border, Kargil etc. The conversation with local left an impression of confusion. There is anger among the youth and resentment among elders and sometimes it was palpable and suffocating. But the society in Kashmir is divided in whatever manner you see, be it between rich/ poor, have/ have-not, rural/ urban and so on. I am worried for such a society, it will explode before imploding.

Army is doing it's job and militants are doing their job, they cross the line knowingly of the dangers ahead.
If any body is under the impression that killing of 2-4 persons on an average daily can let a powerful nuclear country like India to give-up a state (partly) than he is under utter delusion.
Problem can only be solved by discussions and stopping of hostilities and attacks. Indian Government has already declared cease fire and it should be taken as an opportunity by kashmiris to sit and discuss the matter across the table.
