ISLAMABAD, May 28: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunications in its meeting on Saturday expressed concern over the performance of Wireless Local Loop (WLL) service of Pakistan Telecommunication Company (PTCL).

The committee, which met under the chairmanship of MNA Mohammad Tahir Shah in the Parliament House, directed the PTCL management to remove all impediments to the system and ensure after-sales services to WLL customers.

The committee members pointed out that they had received numerous complaints which were brought to the notice of the PTCL management, but all of them went unheeded.

They were of the view that instead of increase in the WLL clientage, it was feared that people would switch over to mobile services.

The committee also directed the PTCL to make WLL scratch cards easily available. It also asked the ministry to focus on provision of WLL service to the far-flung and terrain areas.

Information Technology Minister Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari assured the committee that their observations would be promptly taken care of.

While discussing the promotion policy of the PTCL, the committee asked the company’s management to ensure observance of merit and transparency in the procedures of promotion and employment. It also asked the minister to ensure job security of the PTCL employees.

Later, the minister briefed the committee about e-governance and privatization policies of the PTCL.

The meeting was also attended by MNAs Engineer Gyan Chand Singh, Maulana Ghafoor Ahmad, Sahibzada Mehboob Sultan, Rafique Ahmad Jamali, Mir Ijaz Hussian Jahkrani, Bilquis Saif and Nisar Ahmad Panwar.
