A civil judge on Friday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for TV show host and former Pakistan Television chairman Shahid Masood for his alleged involvement in the embezzlement of Rs38 million from PTV, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) sources told DawnNewsTV.
Masood is accused of signing an agreement with a fake company to obtain media rights for the Pakistan Cricket Board. The TV channel had to face a heavy loss due to the agreement, the sources said.
The FIA sought the warrants, saying that Masood had been asked several times to join the investigation in connection with the case. "However, he deliberately avoided to join the investigation," a request signed by FIA Investigation Officer (IO) Kashir Riaz Awan read.

According to a document, a copy of which is available with DawnNewsTV, the FIA said there was "sufficient incriminating evidence" on record to "effect the arrest of the titled accused".
Subsequently, senior civil judge Amir Aziz ordered that arrest warrants for Masood be issued upon IO Awan's request.

Not a very happy end for a controversial but outspoken anchor who seldom tried to mince his words. His downfall was imminent after his gaffe in little Zainab’s case where he went accusing bigwigs that too without concrete evidence to the effect & got caught red handed.With intolerance seeping in all walks of life, he has to pay for his follies. However, it is irony of fate that in both public & private sectors, one could hardlly find a few of those, who are in the limelight, to be untainted and not accused of some kind of corruption.Paradoxically speaking,due to not making a concerted efforts to eradicate corruption from all sphere of public life and still believing that with a touching of magic wand, it is going to be cleansed,is a false notion.The only way to negate and rise from this pathetic & unpromising position,we all find ourselves in,is to elect honest & upright representatives in the coming elections, who by declaring holy war against corruption,free us from evil once for all

Dr Shahid has been framed by PML-N. FIA is full of pro-Nawaz people and they are acting on his request. I am sure Dr Shahid will not be found guilty in this case.
This is political move in order to keep him off the air till elections end. This is Pakistani justice system. The person who should be in jail is living in a palace and the most qualified journalist is in jail. What a shame.

The purpose of an arrest is to catch people off guard interview them and ask them questions so that they do not have chance to collude with other suspects. The interview/answers are video taped and become evidence in a trial. This is done in all civilised countries. Where is the logic of allowing Suspects to mix with each other and allowing them to collude and come up with a story to confuse the investigators.

I am against "whataboutism" but in this case I have to ask--what about the Gzillions siphoned away by Zardari and Sharifs, finally to be cleansed through burning of records and distortion of facts? Why they have to make an example of Masood whereas main culprits wander free.
Masood will neither be intimidated nor quited through these brazenly biased attempts to quell his fight against corrupt elites of Pakistan. The truth will prevail and Dr. Shahid will rise again.

@Khurram . Why so inordinate delay in ascertaining that he dealt with a fake company. All government tenders are governed under PPRA, and all contractors must be regd at tax dept,having proper office, and bank's credit report are mandatory. Dr Shahid Masood joined PTV in 2008, and in spur of moment a malafide intended case is being pursued. His 3 months ban is about to end, and now it seems some vested interests like to stop him from sensational revelations about some politicians. Dr Masood must confront the case legally, and come out clean.

Tell me a one good journalist where he was not atleast once wrong about his story ? Can I count wrong stories by pakistani journalist Talat , Mir and others ? Many of our so called anchors don't have stories they just invite 4 people from different parties ,of course they can't be wrong because they have no stories to tell. Don't forget Shahid Masood was right many times. PML wants him out one way the other. By now it should be clear he was was not paid by any establishment or court. I am waiting his show to start soon.

I am against the electronic media because they give general accusations but don't reveal their sources. They always say that don't reveal their sources. Same goes with Dr Shahid Masood. If he is not able to reveal the sources, he should not say anything in the first place.

If he is innocent, then why on earth you want justice for Nawaz sherif case. I hope this Dr. Shahid fan club are not PTI followers. Really disappointed!

It is the corrupt remnants of pro PML-N loyalist in FIA who remained quiet and did not take notice of Panama papers. FIA is in process of clean up but they still have some people on PML-N payroll.
