Fawad Khan the Jatt
Film star Fawad Khan has been under the media radar for quite some time. But when one of his friends shared a picture on Facebook of Fawad K in his new Maula Jatt look, the Indian media immediately picked it up and started commenting on it (of course, they’re all praise for the actor).
Yes, Fawad K is nose-deep shooting the film Maula Jatt directed by Bilal Lashari, for which he has spent a good deal of time in the gym. He is also sporting a shaggy beard for the part. Good on him. He might finally look his actual age.
Waiting for Eids
A report published in a newspaper last week has caused alarm bells to ring for Pakistan’s film fraternity. The report suggests that in terms of box office numbers, the year 2018 has been the worst in recent years for Pakistani cinema.
The three major releases in the first half of the year, Cake, Parchi and Motorcycle Girl, haven’t raked in enough money to make their producers or the industry bigwigs have high hopes for the future. Expectation is that the movies to be released on Eidul Fitr might make up for the poor commercial show because the Eid holidays will mean more footfall in cinema halls. And there are some big releases set for Eidul Azha as well. But, to be honest, if our films keep depending on only Eids to taste the fruit of box office success, then it’s not a good omen.
Smoke Gets In Your Ears
Actress Hillary Duff has a neighbour named Dieter Addison, who, according to her, smokes cigarettes and weed and blasts electronic dance music all night long which makes her own apartment reek and keeps her and her six-year-old son up. She is so disturbed by him that she sought her friend’s advice on the matter on social media, using harsh language against the neighbour.
On May 15, Dieter A alleged that Hillary D’s boyfriend, Matt Koma, had punched him in the head over the issue, and even called the police to intervene. This, of course, was denied by Matt K. He claimed that he had only asked Dieter A to quit the habit because it was causing distress to his girlfriend and him. The issue hasn’t yet settled and the neighbours haven’t yet mended fences. Instead, Dieter A has hired a bodyguard. So, there’s still smoke but no fire yet.
What’s in a name?
This is utter madness. After the hullabaloo about Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Padmavati (whose title was changed to Padmaavat following some extremist Hindu groups’ objection to it), another rightwing group Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has threatened that it will not allow an upcoming film Loveratri, produced by Salman Khan, to release in cinemas because it ‘distorts’ the name and meaning of a Hindu festival Navratri.
The film, slated to hit the cinema halls on Oct 5, will launch Salman K’s brother-in-law Aayush Sharma, along with another newcomer Warina. My hunch is that the producer will give in to the pressure and change the title of the movie to something like Muhabbat Ki Aik Pavitr Raat …
Too much PDA
Ok, we get it, you guys love each other truly, deeply and madly. But get a grip, please. In case, you are wondering who this sentence is addressed to, well, it’s a suggestion for the newly-married couple, Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja.
Ever since the two have tied the knot, they have been posting pictures on their Instagram accounts with mushy comments, especially the hubby, who has suddenly found a spring in his step after the wedding. He has been not only uploading the latest pictures of his better half but also some throwback shots her, with gooey captions such as, “It’s wonderful to be loved, it’s profound to be understood.” Anand A, it’s not bad to be understated, either.
Going Out On A Limb
It became the talk of the entire showbiz world when the magazine Vanity Fair in its January 2018 Hollywood issue published its cover with some A-Listers. Interestingly, a Photoshop glitch made actress Reese Witherspoon look like a woman with three legs and Oprah Winfrey one with three hands.
Now, in a spoofy homage to that cover, the magazine GQ has come out with its latest edition having three comediennes par excellence — Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae and Sarah Silverman — in glamorous attires on its cover with each having an extra limb. Vanity Fair was gracious enough to appreciate the joke and responded with the comment, “Prop to GQ for getting a leg up on this trend.” By the phrase ‘leg up’ it probably meant an extra leg!
