ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Monday visited the residence of martyred Col Sohail Abid, of Military Intelligence, in the suburbs of Islamabad to condole his martyrdom with his family.

While talking to his family members, the prime minister said Col Abid was a brave son of the nation who sacrificed his life for the country.

He said whole nation was proud of Col Abid. Armed forces have rendered great sacrifices which will be remembered forever, he said.

Col Abid was martyred in the gunfight during an intelligence based operation held in Balochistan.

Though usually officers of high ranks do not lead such operations, he volunteered to command because of the importance of the operation.

During operation high-value target of Lashkar-i-Jhangvi (LeJ) Salman Badeni, who was involved in the killing of 100 members of Hazara community as well as police personnel, was killed.

Col Abid was survived by three daughters and a son.
