Choked sewers irk people

Published January 9, 2002

SHEIKHUPURA, Jan 8: Improper drainage and sewerage facilities have become a constant nuisance for the residents of the Jhang Road.

People living in street No 3, 4 and 5 told newsmen in a meeting on Tuesday that they had lodged complaints with tehsil and union councils’ Nazims on more than one occasion but without success.

The drain water, which was subsided in a plot before construction of a house, now awashed on streets, they said.

They threatened if their problems would not be resolved at the earliest, they would stage rallies against the apathy of the officials concerned.

They said the tehsil Nazim had directed the sanitary staff to install a drainage system, however, they had paid no heed.

PROTESTED: Wrong parking and overloading by transporters go on unabated in the district due to the negligence of the local traffic police.

Scores of people on Tuesday protested against the apathy of the police. They said the officials deployed to check traffic violation, were more busy in taking bribes.

They urged the new SSP to take stock of the situation and bring the culprits to book for the good of commuters.
