Policeman killed in Bannu bomb blast

BANNU: A policeman lost his life and six others, including two officials, were injured when a remote-controlled bomb targeted a police van on Kohat Road near the general bus stand on Friday, police said.

An official told Dawn that the device was fitted to a motorbike and it was detonated by remote control when a van of the Havid police station was passing through Kohat Road.

The official said that two cars, a rickshaw and a motorcycle were also damaged by the impact of the explosion.

The deceased was identified as Sifatullah, a resident of Janikhel. The injured officials were identified as Basirullah Jan and Safdar Khan and the civilians as Abdul Salim, Sher Daraz, Shahenshah and Mehr Taj.

They were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bannu, and were said to be in stable condition.

Police personnel cordoned off the site following the blast to collect evidence.
