ISLAMABAD, May 24: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) has contacted like-minded Islamic groups in various Muslim countries to stage worldwide protest rallies against desecration of Holy Quran in the Guantanamo Bay prison camp. Speaking at a press conference at the camp office of Rawalpindi-Islamabad press club here on Tuesday, Senator Dr Kousar Firdous said the protest rallies would condemn the incident in all parts of the world including Malaysia, Indonesia, Sudan, Turkey, United Kingdom and the US.

She said the MMA leadership had contacted different Islamic moments and asked them to also stage protest rallies on May 27.

In Pakistan, the rally will be brought out in 12 cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Quetta and Peshawar, she said and added that MMA would invite women from all walks of life, including the women participants of Lahore marathon, to join the protest rally.

Sakina Shahid, Assistant General Secretary Women Wing of MMA, said desecration of Holy Quran not only occurred in Guantanamo prison camp but also in Kandahar, Bagram and Iraq at the hands of the so-called champions of human and religious rights.
