ONE of the most exasperating irritants for citizens is when the government starts a mega project with much enthusiasm but fails to maintain the momentum and the project’s pace resembles that of a snnail. The Multan road expansion project, called the Hudiara Drain Project, is one such undertaking.

The project began with much fanfare but its pace slowed down and it has come to a standstill. At places, rainwater drains have been constructed and a lane added in front of some of the factories but the road remains uncarpeted. This creates hindrance in smooth traffic flow and causes terrible congestion on the road.

The expansion project spans 10.7kms and serves as the main entry and exit points of Lahore. Citizens who asked the National Highways Authority office why the project had stalled did not get a satisfactory reply.

The people appreciate the Punjab government for initiating development projects but would like the authorities to complete them in a timely manner.
