ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will give away cash awards to five medal winning athletes of the recently held Commonwealth Games in a reception on Thursday, May 10.

The reception will be organised by PM Office.

According to a spokesman of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), the entire Pakistan contingent which participated in the Commonwealth Games in Australia as well as the presidents and secretaries of all national federations will also attend the ceremony.

Wrestler Mohammad Inam (86kg) won a gold medal for Pakistan in the Games while wrestlers Mohammad Bilal (57kg) and Tayyab Raza (125kg), weightlifter Nooh Dastagir Butt in 105kg and Talha Talib in 62kg won bronze medals. Gold medalist Inam will be given Rs five million while bronze medalists will be given one million each.

Meanwhile, PSB spokesman Azam Dar said that Pakistan Sports Board, in order vo bring bringing improvement in standards of sports in the country, has also sought recommendations from Pakistan Olympic Associations and from other affiliated federations.

He said that a meeting of federations representatives and DG PSB Aamir Ali Ahmed was also held on Thursday in which options were discussed to uplift the sports sector of the country.

He said that it was also decided audit from auditor general of Pakistan will be conducted of the annual grant which the PSB gives to federations.
