KARACHI: A strong 33-member Balochistan boxing contingent including men, junior and women pugilists, is due to arrive here by road from Quetta on Thursday for the inaugural Sindh — Balochistan boxing series which is being held at different venues of the city from May Friday.

“The event is being held for the first time aimed at providing an opportunity to the players of the two provinces to compete against each other,” secretary of the Sindh Boxing Association (SSA), Asghar Baloch, said on Wednesday.

He said apart from creating harmony, the series will help provide a platform of competitiveness to the participants.

The Balochistan Sports Board has provided complete sports gear to the players besides bearing travelling expenses he said and added that the Sindh Sports Board will bear the cost of their accommodation in Lyari hotels and the expenses of the series.

Asghar Baloch said Balochistan will host Sindh in similar fashion after Eid.

According to him, seven women’s are part of the contingent that will be accompanied by 10 officials.

May 4: Opening ceremony at Ali Mohammad Qambrani Stadium, Kakri ground.

May 5: Bouts at Lyari project boxing club near Usman Park, district South.

May 6: Bouts at Begum Nusrat Bhutto Community Hall, Faqir Colony, Orangi Town, district West.

May 7: Bouts at Ustad Mohammad Satto boxing stadium; North Karachi Gymkhana Near Nagan Chowrangi (women’s); Mauipur National Boxing Club, Hawkesbay Road (juniors).

May 8: Closing Ceremony at Ali Mohammad Qambrani Stadium, Kakri ground.
