ISLAMABAD: Kurram Agency, a part of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), will now have two seats of the National Assembly instead of one.

The decision was taken by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) during the hearing of appeals challenging the delimitation of Kurram Agency.

An ECP official told Dawn that the number of the National Assembly seats allocated to Fata would continue to be 12, adding that the decision would mean an internal adjustment within Fata.

According to the official, the ECP would dispose of all representations against the draft delimitation proposals next week, and then issue the final notification of delimitation of constituencies for the national and provincial assemblies.

Meanwhile, the official said that only four days were left for registration as voters and filing of claims for vote transfer and corrections.

Over 14,000 display centres established across the country as well as district election commissioners’ offices would remain open on Saturday (today) and Sunday for public, he said.

According to the official, those seeking enrolment or corrections in the electoral rolls must bring copies of their computerised national identity cards with their application forms, adding that they should also keep their original CNICs with them.

Voters would be enrolled either on their permanent or temporary addresses as mentioned on their CNICs, he added.
