NOWSHERA: A police constable and a wanted outlaw were killed during an encounter near Khaisary village in Manki Sharif here on Wednesday.

Sources said that police raided a suspected hideout in the mountainous area of Khaisaray after receiving information about the presence of an outlaw wanted in the murder case of Azakhel police station SHO Safdar Khan, who was killed earlier this month.

The police party was led by DSP Luqman Khan and SHOs Zia Khan and Shad Ali Khan. Police sources said that when police raided the place the outlaw opened fire at them and during the fire exchange two constables were injured. They were taken to a hospital where one of them, Wazir Khan, died.

They said that the wanted outlaw, identified as Naveed, was also killed in the encounter. They said that Naveed was wanted for killing SHO Safdar Khan and injuring DSP Luqman Khan. The sources said that Naveed was also wanted to police in other cases.
