QUETTA: Iranian border forces fired mortar shells at Pakistani border villages in the Nokondi area of Chagai district on Monday.

Official sources said that mortar shells fired from the Iranian side landed and exploded in two bordering villages, Rajaay and Gawal-shap, in Nokondi.

“Mortar shells were fired in the early hours of the day. They landed and exploded in an open place,” said Assistant Commissioner Dalbandin Zafar Jan Kobdani, adding that no casualties were reported as the explosions took place away from residential settlements.

However, the explosions did cause panic as many villagers woke up due to the loud noise created by the explosions.

According to sources, personnel of Levies force and Frontier Corps reached the area soon after the mortar shells went off. They started an investigation immediately and collected remains of the mortar shells.
