TAXILA: A member from treasury benches in the Taxila Municipal Committee on Saturday submitted an application with the local government director seeking no-confidence motion against the PML-N-backed chairman Syed Mehmood Shah.

The application, duly signed by 15 members of the opposition PTI, was filed with the Punjab local government and community development director Rawalpindi.

The application sought appointment of a representative for completion of legal procedure.

The mover of the application claimed that he had the support of the required councillors to submit a no-confidence motion against the municipal committee chairman.

However, the local government is yet to fix any date for presenting the motion in the house.

There was a tug of war even between the treasury benchers over the distribution of funds, awards of contracts and other administrative issues.

The ruling party members have developed differences after allegations of corruption, nepotism and mismanagement surfaced. The party is now divided into two groups.

PTI councillor Syed Mehtab Shah, while talking to newsmen, claimed that they had a two-third majority in the house and would succeed in getting the present chairman municipal committee removed.

He said the present chairman had failed to address the problems of the residents of the area.

He said the opposition had been neglected during the last over a year and not a penny has been released to its members for development projects.

Mr Shah said not only the opposition but the treasury members were also annoyed with the working of the present chairman.

Syed Itrat Shah, another opposition member, claimed that the opposition and treasury members were being harassed by ruling party.
