KARACHI: Opener Rizwan Hussain struck a 93-ball century on Saturday as State Bank of Pakistan SBP) sneaked into the last-four stage of the Patron’s Trophy Grade-II cricket tournament after sealing a five-wicket win against K-Electric.

Faced with permutations on the last day of the league round, SBP edged out Navy for the top spot in Pool ‘A’ after Omar Associates thwarted Navy’s victory charge to secure a draw.

K-Electric had been the dominant department in the game at the SBP Sports Complex after taking a substantial 140-run lead on the first innings. But a second-innings collapse triggered by gangling fast bowler Ataullah (6-65) saw K-Electric being bowled out for 129 after resuming day three at 110-7.

Requiring 270, SBP romped home in 53.5 overs as Rizwan blasted 15 boundaries and three sixes in his knock of 105 to give the bankers six precious points which put them on top of the standings with 31.

Navy just needed to beat Omar Associates but their hopes were dashed at the NBP Sports Complex when Usman Khan led a tremendous rearguard with a defiant knock of 102 off 212 balls with 17 fours and a brace of sixes after his team resumed at 149-4.

Omar Associates eventually reached 309-6 before skipper Mohtashim Ali declared the innings to set Navy a staff target of 297.

In the end Navy had to battle for survival as they struggled to 234-8 with opener Hamza Ghanchi contributing 88.

Navy earned just three points to finish with 30.

Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL), who were already assured of their semi-final qualification, celebrated their fifth straight success in Pool ‘C’ when they thrashed CDA by 3-4 runs at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.

Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and Ghani Glass clinched the remaining two places from other groups.

KPT rode on opener Anas Mahmood’s unbeaten 106 (109 balls, 15 boundaries) to crush Pakistan Air Force (PAF) by eight wickets at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot to top Pool ‘B’ ahead of Port Qasim with 32 points.

Ghani Glass booked their spot by handing Railways a 10-wicket drubbing at the Railways Stadium in Lahore to finish with 27 points atop Pool ‘D’.
