KARACHI, May 20: The Department of Information Technology is actively engaged in creating awareness about information technology and its promotion in Sindh. This was stated by Sindh IT Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal.

He was speaking at a function organised here in connection with the World Telecommunication Day, says a statement on Friday.

The minister was of the view that owing to concrete steps being undertaken by the Sindh IT Department there had been a great deal of investment in the province.

He said that a recent example of this is the setting up of the call centres in Karachi.

Mr Kamal pointed out that his department in collaboration with the private sector was focusing on e-government as well.

The minister stated that unemployment was a big challenge and the promotion of IT would contribute towards the resolution of this very problem.

He made it clear that there were many opportunities in the IT sector in Pakistan.

Mr Kamal pointed out that his department would impart training to 1,000 jobless graduates in the field of call centres.

He said that the cost of training under this head comes to Rs50,000 per person.

The minister announced that the government of Sindh would soon set up an Internet media city for which a piece of land spreading over 200 acres had been approved.

He said that foreign investors would be provided with the full infrastructure and other related facilities.—APP
