KARACHI: A suspect was shot dead while two others were critically wounded in Defence Housing Authority on Sunday night, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, a police party indicated three suspects travelling in car to stop in Defence, Phase-II, near a market. The suspects did not stop and opened fire on the police upon which the police returned fire and gunned down a suspect, Karachi-South SSP Sarfraz Nawaz Shaikh claimed

The two others were wounded and taken into custody, the police added.

The senior officer claimed that “this gang of criminals was active in crimes in posh areas since last two months”.

The police claimed to have seized arms also from them.

The dead and the wounded were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

Dr Seemin Jamali, executive director of the hospital, said that the condition of both the wounded suspects, identified as Wali Mohammed, 35, and Shakeel, 30, was critical as they sustained bullet wounds on their chest and abdomen.

The deceased suspect aged around 30 also received bullet wound on his chest, but his identity could not be ascertained immediately.

Estate agent gunned down

An estate agent was shot dead while two other people were wounded in a gun attack on an estate agency in Jamshed Quarters-3 on Sunday night, police said.

Jamshed Quarters SHO Shamshad told Dawn that initially, exchange of hot words took place at the estate agency.

Someone left its office and after 15-20 minutes, the armed men opened indiscriminate fire on people sitting in the office. As a result, Ashiq was killed and Mohammed Yasin and Yasin were wounded.

The SHO suspected some property dispute behind the murder.

However, he added that the police were probing into the incident.
