PESHAWAR: Hashim Babar, a member of Senior Alumni Association Islamia College University Peshawar, has opposed the proposed amendments in rules of the association and demanded of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor to take notice of the matter.
Addressing at a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday, he alleged that incumbent president of the association, Mohammad Zaman Khan, and general secretary Mohammad Fayaz Khan had made the association subservient to vice-chancellor and concerned registrar of the university through proposed amendments. He also accused them of misusing their powers by embezzling funds. Mr Babar said that under the proposed Article 15, the Alumni had augmented the powers of the university to protect and expand their buildings and assets. However, he said that Islamia College University was an independent institution.
“The building of University Book Agency in Khyber Bazar, half market in Safaid Mandi Bazar in Charsada and properties of the university in Harichand area of Charsadda district show that assets of the institution were in billions,” he said.
He said that the president of the association was hand in glove with the vice-chancellor and registrar and conspiring to sale out the assets.
Mr Babar, who is also provincial general secretary of Qaumi Watan Party, demanded of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor to order probe into the matter to expose the conspiracy. He said that the military and civil security agencies of the country should play their role in unearthing the scam. The scam should be made public, he added.
Mr Babar criticised the vice-chancellor and registrar of Islamia College University and ask them to disown the proposed amendments in the rules of association. He said that people would not remain silent over the issue.
