SARGODHA, May 18: An anti-terrorism court on Wednesday handed down 14 years’ imprisonment to two men in a robbery and kidnap for ransom case. Convicts Barkatullah alias Barki and Hafeezullah forcibly entered the house of a retired army official, Abdul Aziz, in Daud Khel, Mianwali district, on Jan 29. They snatched gold ornaments from his wife and inflicted injuries on her when she put up resistance. They kidnapped Aziz’s children Akmal, 4, and Humera, 5, and demanded heavy amount as ransom.

Police chased the convicts and arrested them from the jungle along Indus river bed. The court awarded seven years’ term for kidnap and seven years for robbery.

CASE REGISTERED: The Anti-Corruption Establishment registered a case against naib tehsildar Chaudhry Arshad and patwari Aslam Kabutri for allegedly selling the land of Pakistan Railways.

Both officials tampered with the record and showed the railways’ land as the property of the Punjab province. However, no arrest has so far been made.
