KARACHI, May 17: Human rights activists and civil society organizations have condemned the auction of fisheries rights in Sindh and arrest of leaders of the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum. Leaders from various organizations termed the arrest of PFF leaders an illegal move while addressing a protest demonstration in front of Karachi Press Club on Tuesday afternoon, organized against contract system over inland fisheries and arrest of PFF leaders including its chairperson Mohammad Ali Shah and five others.

The former chairman of Fishermen Cooperative Society, Haji Shafi Jamot; Abdul Khaliq Junejo of JSM; Anis Haroon of Women Action Forum; Sharafat Ali of the Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research; and others spoke on the occasion.

Haji Jamot said that PFF‘s struggle was peaceful and there was no reason to register a case against its leadership. He said instead of contract system, the government should Introduce Mole System in inland fisheries.—PPI
