Robust security plan in place

PESHAWAR: A robust security plan has been made to ensure the holding of Senate elections in the provincial capital today (Saturday) in a peaceful and conducive atmosphere.

This was stated by SP (security) Sajjad Sahibzada during a meeting held by the Provincial Election Commission here on Friday to review security arrangements for the Senate polls.

The meeting was chaired by provincial election commissioner Pir Maqbool Ahmad and attended by the relevant officials.

SP (security) Sajjad Sahibzada told participants that there was a strong coordination among all relevant departments, while the security personnel in required numbers had been deputed around the polling station to ensure the peaceful holding of the electoral exercise.

Major Saad said the FC personnel would also be given the security duty along with the policemen and the provincial assembly’s security staff members to ensure peaceful elections.

The provincial election commissioner, who is also the returning officer for the Senate polls in the province, expressed satisfaction with the security measures and expressed the hope that the electoral exercise would be held in a peaceful and transparent manner.

He said the leaders of all parliamentary parties had assured the ECP of their full support and cooperation in the smooth, peaceful and fair holding of the Senate polls.
