KARACHI: Government of Sindh’s Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs, Dr Niaz Abbasi has announced that the funds allocated for each division for 17th Sindh Games has been released to commissioners of the respective divisions.

“Funds for the expenses to be incurred for organizing trials of different teams of each division have been released to respective commissioners of each division for the Sindh Games,” Abbasi said during Sindh Games venue committees’ conveners meeting.

The participating divisions are Hyderabad, Larkana, Benazirabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur and hosts Karachi. Abbasi said that the trials of every division would be completed by March 8.

On the occasion former hockey Olympian Islahuddin Siddiqui, Director Sports Sindh Shahzad Pervaiz, Chairman media committee Asif Azeem, venue committee convenor Ghulam Mohammad and Khalid Rehmani were also present on the occasion.

Abbasi further said that all work for transport and accommodation of players and officials has been completed and tenders for sports kits and other playing gears have also been released.

“After checking the samples, orders will also be placed soon. After unveiling of the event’s mascot, it will be displayed at roundabouts and important places of the city,” he added.

He further said that in order to hold the event in a befitting manner from opening to closing ceremony, the role of venues’ conveners was important. He added that officials of different sports associations and venues’ conveners have to work with proper coordination between them.

Meanwhile, announcing the venues for Sindh Games, Abbasi said that apart from opening and closing ceremonies events of athletics, kodi kodi and shooting ball will be held at PSB Coaching Centre. Shahzad Pervaiz will be the convener of the venue.

He added that judo, softball, taekwondo, squash, ju jitsu and basketball events will be held at NED University and Professor Wasiuddin would be the convener at the venue. Men’s football and volleyball events will be held at KPT Benazir Shaheed Sports Complex and Ghulam Mohammad will be the convener at the venue.

Sadia Sheikh will be the convener at KMC Football Stadium, which will host women’s football. Cycle race will be held from Quaid’s Mausoleum to Steel Town and Mohammad Farooq Khan will serve as the convener of the race.

Malakhara and Wanj Wathi competitions will be held at Memon Goth and Mohammad Kalhor would be the convener. SSB Sports Complex will host Badminton, bodybuilding, gymnastics and table tennis events with Raziq Rabbani being its convener. T20 cricket event will be held at DMC Ground and Azeemul Shan will be the convener there.

Mini Sports Complex will host netball and throwball events and Anjum Zaidi will be convener at the venue. Hockey Club of Pakistan will host men’s hockey event and Syed Hussain Shah will be convener there. Meanwhile, Islahuddin Siddiqui will serve as in-charge during women’s hockey event at Islahuddin Hockey Academy.

At Customs Club, chess, sepaktakraw, weightlifting, wushu and wrestling events will be held and Major Mehmood will be its convener. Abdul Hameed Rajput will be the convener at Karachi Gymkhana where tennis events will be held.

Meanwhile, at Kakri Ground, boxing and karate events will be held and its convener will be its convener. Arshad Arain will be the convener of donkey cart race at Seas View.
