Nadra chairman pays surprise visit to mega centre, suspends two staffers over negligence

National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) Chairman Usman Mubeen paid a surprise visit to a Nadra mega centre located in SITE area of Karachi on Friday, where he reportedly stood in line along with other applicants without revealing his identity.

When his turn came, the Nadra staff raised 'objections' on the application form submitted by Mubeen, DawnNews reported.

Observing the unprofessional behaviour of Nadra staffers, the chairman suspended two staff members, including a female employee, on the pretext of causing trouble to citizens, it added.

The Nadra chairman said a Pakistani citizen can get an identity card issued from any centre located anywhere in the country.

"Strict action will be taken against those causing trouble to citizens visiting the [Nadra] centres," Mubeen maintained.

Later, Mubeen also made unannounced visits to other Nadra centres located in the metropolis.

Thanks are due to the Jamat-e-Islami Karachi chief, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, who actively pursued the problems faced by the people of the metropolis at the hands of NADRA staff. And also are due to the chief of NADRA who took the unusual step of getting first hand knowledge about the problems being faced by the ordinary citizens at his staff's hands by his own initiative of standing in the queue for applying for an NIC. One hopes this will bring improvement in the working of NADRA and the harassment and delays and bribes will vanish from the workings of NADRA in the coming times.

Thank you chairman of Nadra Mr.Mubeen for taking action against the Nadra staffer Nadra Islamabad has renewed my ID but they didn't send me my ID card back to me, Nadra staffer neither picking my call not reply to my to email.

This is a true public servant,he must have been for warned tho i think, you know people in offices that serve the public everywhere in the world are often rude,perhaps its something about working for the government makes them snappy and not nice, i mean you could catch a plane to France and enter a govenment office, and you will find the same crummy attitude, its a world wide affliction

This action is appreciate able, near to me his time is much more costly than doing this sort of things. He may introduce the culture of SURPRISE VISITORS. Who will visit the centres as unanimous visitor and can report on the functioning ability of counters. This will bring out much needed guide line to improve functions and deficiencies in the system as well needs to improve behavior of front line officers directly interacting with public. Any how thank you for taking pain to see what common citizen is facing.

Honestly speaking I have never had any problems while visiting any of the NADRA offices for any purpose either in Karachi or Toronto. I have always found staff to be courteous, professional and willing. My experience in Toronto office was very good as well. I visited here with my family for the renewal of passports and everything was done without any hassle whatsoever. I personally believe that NADRA is a tremendous institution and will go a long, long way in the development of Pakistan, Inshallah.

That's better. However, NADRA on line is great. I get my CNIC and FRC ( Family Registration Certificate) on line. It's very simple. Thereafter, I went to the NADRA center at Korangi Road, which is opened 24/7, just to know how the family data is linked to individual family members. One NADRA rep helped me and showed me the data linked to each of my family member. My appreciation to all NADRA personnel including Tariq Malik ex-Chairman who made it a state of the art organization.
