17th Sindh Games to commence in Karachi on March 28

KARACHI: The 17th Sindh Games will commence here from March 28 while the concluding ceremony will be held at PSB National Coaching Center on March 31.

Around 3000 players and officials from the six divisions of the province including Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Larkana, Sukkur, Benazirabad and host Karachi will participate in the four-day event.

Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Dr. Niaz Abbasi, while briefing the journalists at the Sindh Boy Scouts Auditorium here on Wednesday, said that as many as thirty disciplines for men and seventeen disciplines for women will be contested in the Games.

He said that on the directives of Chief Minister Sindh, healthy sports activities are being promoted at the district level.

Dr. Niaz said that total expenses of Rs 4.5 billion have been estimated for the Sindh Games.

“Currently we have Rs 3 billion and for the arrangement of the remaining amount, an application has been forwarded to the finance department.”

He assured that foolproof security arrangements will be made for the event and various committees and sub committees have been assigned specific tasks to ensure smooth conduct of the Games.

From each division, 242 male and 142 female players will participate in Sindh Games while 15 different venues have been located for holding the competitions in the extravaganza.

It was further informed that the contingent of Pakistan Air Force will demonstrate a sky diving show at the concluding ceremony of the event, to be held on March 31.

Chief Engineer Aslam Mahar, Chairman Media Committee Asif Azeem and Director Sports Sindh, Shahzad Pervez were also present on the occasion.
