ISLAMABAD, May 12: Pakistan Muslim League (PML) president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and secretary-general Mushahid Hussain Sayed held a meeting with President General Pervez Musharraf on Thursday and discussed with him the current political situation. The working of the parliamentary committee on Balochistan also came under discussion.

The committee is scheduled to resume its meeting on Saturday (May 14) to finalize its report on constitutional matters pertaining to provincial autonomy and concurrent list for submission to the president, prime minister and parliament. Chaudhry Shujaat took the president into confidence on steps that he and other senior party leaders had proposed to sort out various issues faced by the party to enable it to play an effective role in the forthcoming local bodies’ elections.

He also informed the president about measures that the party leaders had proposed in their Wednesday’s meeting, including organizational decisions about the NWFP and Sindh chapters of the PML.

Recent statements by certain senior party leaders including Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, Humayun Akhtar and Farooq Leghari also figured in the discussion. The president informed the PML leaders about the ongoing dialogue with other political forces, including the PPP Parliamentarians of Benazir Bhutto, with particular reference to his recent statement that Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif would have no role in the 2007 general elections.
