University chairs

Published February 18, 2018

Recently, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Sindh has appointed Prof (Dr) Kazi Khadim Hussain, a retired professor and renowned scholar, as Director of Dr Nabi Bux Khan Bloch Chair.

The decision is laudable. However, there are more chairs which were established in the varsity with much fanfare from time to time in the name of eminent scholars and politicians such as Allama I.I Kazi, Allama Ghulam Mustafa Qasmi, Pir Hasamuddin Shah Rashdi, Mirza Qaleech Baig, Benazir Bhutto and Seerat Chair.

However, except Allama Ghulam Mustafa Qasmi chair, which too is headed by Dr Kazi, the remaining chairs are non-functional. A Chair is an intellectual and enlightened face of a seat of higher learning.

I, therefore, request the Vice Chancellor, University of Sindh, to also activate the remaining chairs at the earliest.
